About the Logo

Our logo comes from a symbol used on roofs nearly 1,300 years ago during the Tenpyo Era.

Heijo-kyo, once the capital of Japan, was constructed in Nara in 1,300 years ago, and an eaves tile with the symbol of a double cherry blossom was excavated from its remains. While these eaves tiles supported the rest of the tiles, they also displayed the house symbol of temples, shrines, and aristocrats.

The ancient, double cherry blossom of the Nara capital, today is all the more beautiful, and fragrant

This 61st poem in the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu collection is famous work by Iseno Taifu. It is thanks to this poem that the double-cherry blossom has also become a symbol of the ancient Nara capital.

As the Nara International Film Festival was held on the 1,300th anniversary of the capital being moved here, we thought this would make a great logo and decided to use this motif. The 24 spots along the outer ring represent 24 frames/second, a standard of filming. In addition, the five cherry blossom pedals represent the five continents, and the stamen's seven pedals in the center represent the seven seas that bring the world together.
