Roll

Program D

Yoshihiro lived a life going back and forth between his dorm and his part-time job at a second-hand shop, and every now and then, his university. His one joy was taking home items that no longer had any use, and taking them apart. It was that kind of Yoshihiro that encountered the unknown object of “film” and a girl named Nazumi. From this encounter, Yoshihiro’s world grows a lot bigger.

Born in Shigaraki Town, Shiga Pref. Without a movie theater in town, he grew up devouring the American films his mother rented. He studied Film Studies at Kyoto University of the Arts. The first film he directed, Forget but..., was screened in the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner in 2019. He will release his third film, Red Planet. The next film he wants to make will be “about having another hometown”.

Director’s Statement

The main character enocunters “film”, an object that is somewhat unknown for our generation, and that becomes his first step into a world he couldn't imagine. It's wanting to know what you don't know. Wanting to see what you want to see. This is a film that tries to grasp the first step of one young man, as I too hope to be like that, and made this film.
