Following the death of a young girl’s beloved grandmother and pet, she is to relocate to the city with her parents despite their estrangement. While being told how to think, feel and behave by her parents, she reveals love in its rawest form.

Born and raised in Penang, Malaysia. Chuah Jie Xie studied film production in Taiwan and most of her works are based on own life experiences. Her graduation short film, Lanny is a semi-autobiographical film. It held its International Premiere at the 30th Singapore International Film Festival.

Director’s Statement

I’ve never been good at expressing emotions with words. Facing one’s own feelings is easier said than done, but we must confront the loss and death in our lives. Lanny is a semi-autobiographical film with which I confronted my fear and cowardice and relieved my feelings.
