(A2) [THE TWO ON THE STAIRS]

Sachiko, who is now married and a homemaker, is contacted by her junior, Megumi, who asks to meet at a coffee shop. Megumi does not reveal anything about why she has come to Tokyo, except for work. Sachiko tries to get through this uncomfortable conversation by faking a smile because she can’t even remember Megumi’s nickname. When some time passes, they happen to go to Sachiko’s house, where Megumi gets a glimpse of Sachiko’s everyday life.

Director
When I became an adult, I was in the gray area between feeling like I was still a child and being grown up. Coming of age seems to be just one of the crossroads in my life. On the other hand, though crossroads in small events were there, I wonder whether I may have missed them, maybe even on purpose. This idea inspired me to make this film. I want to depict the characters who are, unbeknownst to them, at a crossroads in life, and how they should face the reality of choosing their own lives.

The senior and junior women meet for the first time in a long time. The searching look of the younger woman who comes to the room where the senior couple lives, and the well-crafted dialogues allow the viewer to imagine the background of the two women and the hollow space in their hearts that they each hold.
