On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Okinawa’s reversion to mainland Japan, under the cherry blossoms in full bloom at Kiyoharu Art Colony in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, Ryukyuan dancer Shigeo Miyagi dances and film director Naomi Kawase creates a fantastic fantasy. This film records the unique world. The program is the famous female dance song “Mutunuchibana”.
After the screening, there will be a talk show with Shigeo Miyagi and Naomi Kawase. We will talk about the possibility of new expressions about the ambitious initiative that makes us feel the arrival of the era of watching Ryukyu classical dance on video.
In Nara – where she was born and raised – Naomi Kawase continues to make her films. Her pursuit to capture “reality” through film beyond simplistic documentary-fiction dichotomies, has received wide-acclaim, including at the Cannes Film Festival. While continuing to expand her activities, she remains deeply rooted in her hometown where she began the Nara International Film Festival and the Youth Filmmaking Workshop to nurture the next generation of visionaries. She is the official Film Director of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, a Thematic Producer for the 2025 Osaka-Kansai World Expo. In her private life, she is also a mother of one who enjoys cooking.
