Films for All Generations
This film is an adaptation of the autobiographical novel by Nobuko Takagi, an Akutagawa Prize-winning writer, modeled on herself on her childhood.
The story is about how Shinko, an imaginative girl who likes daydreaming, grows up with her peers in Hofu, a small town of Yamaguchi prefecture in the mid 50's and 60's (Showa era of 30's) while having bittersweet feelings. Shinko hears the story about what her town was like a thousand years ago and what the little princess living there was like from her grandfather, which she imagines.
One day, Shinko and her friends make a small dam with Kiiko who was transferred from Tokyo, and they care for a red goldfish named“Hizuru”in the dam. But Hizuru accidentally dies. The bond of friendship among them starts to become strained because of its death.
This movie received the Excellence Prize in the Animation Division of the 14th Japan Media Arts Festival.
